"I'm consistently taken aback when she remembers something so seemingly small from several sessions prior. It makes me feel like she really hears me and knows where I am. Going to therapy can be intimidating but Mollie makes it feel the opposite - she is warm and encouraging."
Approach

Trauma-Informed Teletherapy
"I struggle in relationships..."
"I don't know/trust myself and my thoughts and emotions..."

"I feel on edge..."
"I feel numb..."
"I don't why I feel bad, I just do..."
"I don't know how to talk about it..."

These are some common statements that I hear from clients that are just beginning therapy with us. These expressions are all symptoms of trauma. We are a trauma-specializing practice who work with many people who have suffered physical abuse, sexual abuse, and bullying, to name a few. Many people think of trauma as a single incident horrific event-- while this is true, there is another kind of trauma that is often experienced, but rarely acknowledged. This is attachment trauma.

Attachment Trauma
Attachment trauma is when a child does not feel adequately cared for by their providers. Attachment trauma can result from egregious actions such as abuse or neglect. However, it can also result from emotionally distant or inattentive parents. The child of a workaholic parent, the child of a parent who struggles with their own mental illness,  or the child of  a generally indifferent parent can result in an adult with symptoms of attachment trauma. These kinds of symptoms can include low self-esteem, inability to regulate or fully experience emotions, inability to create boundaries, impulsivity, and problems with control.
