"I've been in and out of therapy for more than a decade and have never felt compelled to be as open and vulnerable as I am with her. EMDR, especially, has been life-changing in terms of eradicating my deeply embedded shame and processing my feelings. I cannot recommend Mollie highly enough."

WHAT IS EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitizing and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy proven to be very effective in treating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder as well as other mental health issues. EMDR has been recognized as an effective treatment by many renowned organizations such as the American Psychiatric Association, the World Health Organization, the US department of Veterans’ Affairs, and many others.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Our brains naturally processes distressing events. Sometimes, due to a variety of circumstances, our brains can get “stuck” and be unable to process it sufficiently. A good analogy for this is thinking about eating a large meal. After you’ve overindulged on a large dinner, your digestive system cannot fully process all of the food. You experience painful symptoms and are “stuck” in a place of discomfort. EMDR helps your brain “digest that large dinner.”

EMDR is a strict protocol that uses Bilateral Stimulation (BLS) through eye movements, tapping, and/or audible tones to reprocess emotions, thoughts, and somatic feelings around one or many distressing events. The way in which the therapist uses BLS to process the traumatizing events is akin to our brain using REM sleep to process our day’s activities.
